The Week at Book Brats (October 7th)

Welcome to The Week at Book Brats, our weekly meme where we wrap up last week, prepare you for this week, and tell you about how we bought water skis that we didn’t need at the flea market because they were only $5 and that was a great deal!

BOOKISH LINKS
I have decided to make this week’s Bookish Links all about FANFICTION and Lena Dunham, who I will make no amends in admitting my utter dislike for her.
But let’s start with Lena Dunham’s advice book proposal bidding war that has now reached almost $4 million. Being a year younger than Lena and someone who lived in NYC for a few years, you would think I would love Girls, but quite frankly, it struck the same chord as Juno – insufferable. But apparently five publishers think she’s worth this much. Will she beat Tina Fey’s $5 million for Bossypants?
And time for FANFICTION.
Jezebel has a very interesting article on how fanfiction is drastically changing the face of young adult fiction. Which also links us to an article on how a sixteen year old UK teen got a book deal for One Direction fanfic with Penguin.
And if you didn’t know, this week was banned books week which means you should go read some banned books and remember the good ol’ days (IE today) where people get up in arms over sexytimes and differing religions and being liberal!

IRONSKIN by Tina Connolly
Published October 2nd, 2012 by Tor
This one showed up as a surprise, but trust me, it’s been on my radar for awhile. IRONSKIN
combines element of the fae, MAN IN THE IRON MASK, and romance to create something that
sounds utterly awesome. And I can’t wait to dive in!
THE END
